Can I submerge my baby and toddler underwater?

The short answer is “yes” but with proper water conditioning.

Water conditioning a process when we teach a child/toddler (toddler) to hold their breath. To our little ones, they are unlikely to understand the phrase “hold your breath”; to teach that we employ words-action association technique. During the process, we use key words like “Ready? Go” (words) before pouring a cupful of water (action) over our toddler’s face. Some toddlers might look “surprised”, this is normal. The process should be stress-free for both parent and child. Congratulate your toddler for his/her first water-over-face experience, positive reinforcement goes a long way.

Over time, toddler will learn to hold their breath when we say the key words. When they are well conditioned, it is time for them to experience submersion in the pool while being assisted by their parents.

Remember, seek a swim teacher guidance before attempting the above.
