A pair of correctly fitted goggles makes a huge difference in a child’s learning progress. Children with unsuitable goggles often spent time wearing or adjusting it hence affecting actual practice time. Here are some factors to look for when selecting a pair of goggles for your child. Fitting
The silicone of the goggles prevents water from entering. For children who are learning to swim, avoid goggles made for the competition which usually does not or has little silicone gasket around the lens. To test fitting, wear the goggles by pressing it into the area around your child’s eyes, the goggles should seat comfortably even when the straps are not over the head. Shape
Select goggles with a symmetrical lens. Hence, it doesn’t matter when young children wear their goggles upside down; the silicone gasket still provides good sealing. The same cannot be said about triangle-shaped goggles, they are like to be uncomfortable and water seeps through easily.
Triangle-shaped lens are not suitable for young learners.
Lens to eyeball
Select goggles that have a sufficient eyeball-to-len distance. Low profile goggles tend to have the lens close to the eyeballs which is uncomfortable over time. Your child needs to blink. Band
The goggles band should be a single solid band and split into two at the back; this provides a more secure hold. Single band design tends to slip down hence doesn’t provide comfort. The band adjustment should be at the side of the goggles with quick-adjust buckles for easy wear and adjustment.
Features: Split band with quick-adjust buckles at the side
Single band tends to slip down the back of the head.
Invest in a good pair of goggles; it helps your child learn better and will undoubtedly last longer with proper care.
